This page explains how to delete your Critto account, or just some of your data. Critto is made by Nexferra LTD. To clear things without closing your account, see deleting some of your data further down.

How to delete your account

  • In the app: open Settings → Your data and choose Delete my account. If your account has an email, we email a link to confirm it's you; if it doesn't, you confirm by typing a short phrase.
  • Without the app: email help@critto.app from the email address on your account and ask us to delete it. We'll check it's you and do it.

Deleting your account cancels your plan for you.

What happens, and when

  • Your account keeps working for 7 days. Change your mind any time that week with Keep my account (Settings → Your data) — nothing is lost.
  • After 7 days, everything below is deleted. We send one last email to let you know it's done.

What's deleted

  • All your crittos, every chat, and everything they remembered about you.
  • Your Den computer, with its files and the logins and keys you saved in it. The key that unlocks those logins is destroyed at once.
  • Your connected apps and sign-ins, anything you uploaded, and your data exports.
  • Your account, with your name, email and birth year.

What's kept, and for how long

  • Backups. Our systems keep short-term backups. Your deleted data ages out of them within 60 days, and is never restored to a live account.
  • The key backup. The encrypted backup of the key to your saved logins is gone within 30 days (the live key is destroyed at once, so they can't be read again).
  • Server logs: kept 30 days.
  • Safety records: the safety-check log and the record of what your crittos looked at are kept 90 days. A count of crisis-support checks is kept 3 years, without your name.
  • Payments and tax. Polar sells Critto plans as the merchant of record and keeps its own payment and tax records for as long as the law requires. Critto never stores your card.

Delete some of your data without closing your account

You don't have to close your account to clear things. Each change takes effect in Critto straight away, and reaches our backups within 60 days.

  • Delete a chat. In a critto's chat, open the ⋯ menu and choose Reset conversation. It clears that chat's history and what the critto was doing in the Den. Files in the Den are kept.
  • Clear what a critto remembers. Open the critto's mind (the ⋯ menu, then its mind) and edit or empty its Memory and Journal notes. Changes save as you make them.
  • Delete a critto. Open Edit critto and choose Delete. That removes the critto with its chats and memories; your Den and your other crittos stay.
  • Delete a page. In Pages, open a page's ⋯ menu and choose Delete. It's removed and can't be undone.
  • Delete files in the Den. Open your Den and delete files there, as on any computer.
  • Remove your photo or name. In Settings → You, choose Remove picture, or change Your name and choose Save.
  • Disconnect an app. In Connections, open the app and choose Disconnect. Critto loses its access to it.
